Haemophilus Identification Agar was developed to provide a suitable medium for differentiation and identification of pathogenic Haemophilus species by determining in vitro growth requirements for X (Hemin) and/or V (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD)) factors.
Growth factor requirements can be determined using an agar medium free of both X and V factors by demonstrating satellitism growth around filter paper strips impregnated with X and V factors (1,2,).
